I wasn’t disappointed, but I was a little surprised, as I’d expected something more akin to The Three. Lotz has easily become one of my favourite authors.ĭay Four is quite different from The Three. For one thing, it is presented in a more ‘conventional’ style: a prose narrative, rather than a series of articles, letters, transcripts, etc., which Lotz handled with masterful skill in the previous book. Day Four is the highly-anticipated follow-up, and I’m happy to report that it does not disappoint. The Three was easily one of my favourite books of last year. There’s a murderer on board the Beautiful Dreamer… and maybe something worse.

When the body of a woman is discovered in her cabin the passengers start to panic. That is, until the toilets stop working and the food begins to run out. But everyone is certain that rescue teams will come looking for them soon. With no electricity and no cellular signals, the passengers and crew have no way to call for help. The trip of their dreams becomes the holiday of their nightmares…įour days into a five day singles cruise on the Gulf of Mexico, the ageing ship Beautiful Dreamer stops dead in the water. It seemed like the end of the world… but it wasn’t. The White Road ( 2017) is a supernatural thriller climaxing on Mount Everest in The Impossible Us ( 2022), a man and a woman, who are attracted to each other via the Internet, find they are occupying Alternate Worlds.Four planes. The solo Three Universe sequence beginning with The Three ( 2014) hints that the Disasters in the air – and in the sequel Day Four ( 2015) aboard a Ship of Fools cruise ship – may augur the End of the World. Two collaborative S L Grey singletons followed: the mixed protagonists of Under Ground ( 2015) must attempt to reach a bunker Underground in Near Future Maine as a Pandemic rages above, and then deal with each other The Apartment ( 2016) is nonfantastic, though hints of supernatural oppressiveness permeate the titular residence.

Much of her work is horror (though see Horror in SF), including the Downside Trio with Greenberg as S L Grey (for details see his entry). (1971- ) UK author, in South Africa from early adulthood for two decades, active from around 2000 she has collaborated with Louis Greenberg as by S L Grey, with Savannah Lotz as by Lily Herne, and with Helen Moffatt and Paige Nick as by Helena S Paige she has also done some non-book collaborative work with Lauren Beukes.
